Question: Why did Dr. Blanton choose to use the word
“brother” in the song?
“This, then, was the beginning of the answer
to the gentleman who, several years before, had piqued Dr. Blanton with his
caustic criticism. In their conversation
in her office, he had enumerated a number of improvements in education which he
thought could be effected by women teachers.
When he had asked why they did not do these things, Dr. Blanton had
coldly confessed she did not know. “I
can tell you,” he rejoined, “it’s because women just don’t stand together.”
